Heartland Youth Choir is the first group from Iowa to participate in the International Choral Festival. The invitation-only event this year brings choirs from eight countries to Missoula, Montana, for a variety of public performances July 13 - 16.
Twenty-one singers between the ages of 10 and 13 will represent Heartland Youth Choir at the festival. They will perform nine times at a variety of venues during the four-day event. When they aren’t singing, they will have a chance to interact with the other choirs and even learn about global trends in music at a special Conductors’ Seminar.
The festival, which started in 1987, takes place just once every three years. Choirs from around the world are invited to participate based on the strength of their program and performances.
This year, 11 choirs will participate, including three from the United States: Iowa, Montana, Washington state. Other countries represented include Hong Kong, Costa Rica, Cuba, Georgia, Estonia, Canada, Poland.
