WinterSongs is the Heartland Youth Choir's first major public concert of the 2016-17 season. All five of our ensembles will perform, with all 150 voices of the choir coming together on stage for an uplifting finale. The concert will take place beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, in Sheslow Auditorium on Drake University campus in Des Moines.
The concert features 18 holiday songs, including traditional favorites like Christmas Bells Are Ringing, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and Baby, It's Cold Outside. In addition, the choir will perform music from around the world with songs like the Estonian carol Ule Lume Lagedale, the Russian folksong Rushing Troika, and the Hebrew classic Ma Vue.
Joining the choir is the Windsor Brass, a musical ensemble from Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. The group is composed of a mix of adults and high school students from around the Des Moines metro area. The director is Jon Lewis.
HYC parent and choir coordinator Amy Saylor will play oboe on As I Sat on a Sunny Bank, an arrangement by HYC Artistic Director Barbara Sletto.
The concert is open to the public; tickets will be available for purchase at the door. All seats are general admission. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children, students and seniors 65+. (Children under 2 are free on a parent's lap.) If you would like to purchase tickets before the show, contact the HYC office at 515-221-3922 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sales of CD and DVD recordings of the concert will be available at the show.
