Sign up for a time to meet with Artistic Director Barbara Sletto by emailing office@joinhyc.org or calling 515-221-3922. Meeting times are available on the days and at the times listed below. But if those days don't work for you, call to arrange a different meeting between Tuesday, December 13, and Thursday, December 22.

Tuesday, December 13:      4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, December 15:     4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Monday, December 19:       4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

A new record for participation brought 100 voices to our Guys Power Sing, where they performed the world premiere of a song arranged just for them. Our singers also sang holiday favorites at the inaugural Christkindlmarket Des Moines. Get all the details on our Facebook page.

More great performances are on the way in 2017. Won't you join us?

Heartland Youth Choir Performs with Canadian Brass

Singers in the Heartland Youth Choir's Cantilena ensemble will sing along with the Canadian Brass during their Holiday Concert on Friday, December 9, at Sheslow Auditorium in Des Moines.

The event is hosted by the Civic Music Association.

The brass quintet Canadian Brass has performed in virtually every major concert hall in the world, been seen by hundreds of millions of people on television, sold 2 million of their approximately 100 albums worldwide and contributed nearly 600 new works and arrangements to the brass quintet repertoire. The first brass ensemble to tour China and the first to play the main stage at Carnegie Hall, they are almost single-handedly responsible for elevating the art of the brass quintet to what it is today.

The musicians in the Canadian Brass are group founder and tuba legend Chuck Daellenbach, Caleb Hudson and Christopher Coletti (trumpets), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone) and Bernhard Scully (horn).

Holiday Concert at the Des Moines Art Center

Singers from the Chante and Chamber ensembles of the Heartland Youth Choir will join music historian Michael Lasser at the Des Moines Art Center on Thursday, December 8, for an entertaining evening of well-loved holiday songs and the history behind them.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. in Levitt Auditorium. The concert is free, but you still need to reserve your seat at the Art Center website.

Songs include traditional holiday tunes like Silver BellsSanta Claus Is Coming To TownI’ve Got My Love To Keep Me WarmBaby It’s Cold Outside. But also some surprises. One of the tunes Lasser requested is titled Never Marry a Girl With Cold Feet from the 1907 musical Dairymaids. Neither he nor Artistic Director Barbara Sletto could find a written score for the tune. So Barbara called on a local composer to transcribe the music from an audio version.

Four young male singers have had loads of fun rehearsing the tune. It's sure to be a memorable moment in Thursday's concert.
